Day trips to nearby Corregidor Island, waterfalls in Laguna, Tagaytay/Taal Volcano, Antipolo (view overlooking Metro Manila skyline) & more.
The small (2-square-mile [5-square-km]) island, part of the province of Cavite, has long been considered a natural fortress. The Spanish fortified it in the 18th century, when it was used as a registration (corregidor) site for ships entering the bay. After the Spanish-American War, the island became a U.S. military station, and an elaborate system of tunnels and emplacements was constructed. When Japan invaded the Philippines (December 1941), Gen. Douglas MacArthur chose Bataan and Corregidor Island as his major defense positions. Bataan fell on April 9, 1942, and Corregidor Island became the last outpost of organized resistance in the islands. Lieut. Gen. Jonathan M. Wainwright and his forces repelled the invaders for 27 days, until May 6, 1942, when they were forced to surrender Corregidor Island to Lieut. Gen. Homma Masaharu. U.S. forces regained the island in 1945.

INCREDIBLE PLACES YOU’LL FIND IN THE PROVINCE OF LAGUNA, PHILIPPINES
Laguna is a beautiful province located in the CALABARZON region in Luzon, Philippines. If you are coming from Manila, it will take you an hour and a half to reach the heart of the province (without the traffic). Because of the proximity, Laguna is known to be one of the best weekend getaway spots of people who would like to take a breather from the hustle and bustle of the metro.
If you must know, I am a proud ‘probinsyana’ from this amazing province. I grew up and studied in Laguna and back then, I didn’t realize that there were a lot of hidden gems in the province. I heard a few of it, but it was just recently that it made noise in the travel and tourism industry. As I did my research, I now know why it became one.
For those who want a list of what you can do in Laguna, I will share with you 15 incredible places you can find in the province.
Hidden Valley Springs in Calauan
A lot of people thought that Hidden Valley Springs is located in Alaminos, Laguna. However, this is just the entry point to this paradise. Its exact location is in a nearby town called, Calauan.
Seven Lakes of San Pablo City
This is where I grew up! Now I am feeling nostalgic. But I’m not here to tell you my childhood days. Instead, I’m going to brag one of the things that San Pablo City is known for – 7 Lakes.
You got that right, this city has 7 Lakes namely, Bunot, Kalibato, Yambo and Pandin (also known as twin lakes), Palakpakin, Muhikap and Sampaloc. According to other people, these actually crater lakes formed after a volcanic eruption.

There are different activities which you can do in each lake. You can jog around, ride your bike or eat local street food. However, if you want to camp overnight and swim, Yambo Lake is becoming a popular spot for it. You can even ask the locals to cook the meals for you. The best part about it is that it’s very affordable. I would recommend this if you are working on a tight budget.
